[This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 8 (March 1, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George R. Fratus (ASN: 2385733), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Ancerville, France, 1 November 1918. When telephone communications had been cut off, Private Fratus volunteered to carry messages to the Battalion Commander. Though he was wounded in passing through an intense artillery barrage, he succeeded in delivering the messages.
