Foster, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Soissons, France, 22 July 1918. A courageous and inspiring leader at all times, Captain Foster particularly distinguished himself for bravery and judgment by charging and capturing a machine-gun nest that threatened his advance, although wounded during that action.
