The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Thomas W. Fleming (ASN: 263515), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 128th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Romagne and Bantheville, France, 14 October 1918. When the advance was held up by fire from an enemy machine gun, Corporal Fleming, with utter disregard of personal danger, rushed out alone in the face of terrific machine-gun and shell fire, attacked the machine-gun nest, killing the gunner, capturing the four remaining members of the crew and bringing them back to our lines.
