The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Edward Gulager Fenwick (ASN: 8078), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Section No. 517, Ambulance Service (French Army Attached) near Abeele, France, on the morning of 7 June 1918. After having suffered severe injuries, with no thought of himself, Private Fenwick walked some distance to camp and procured assistance for the three wounded soldiers whom he had removed from his car after it had been struck by a high-explosive shell.
