The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Edwin A. Falkinburg (ASN: 2411496), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 311th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chevieres, France, 21 October 1918. Private Falkinburg remained on duty continuously for four hours, administering aid to wounded men under heavy shell fire. After being gassed he continued to work for an hour until all the wounded were attended.
