The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Gilimo A. Eromo (ASN: 543173), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Claires-Chenes Woods, France, 20 October 1918. When his company was held up by heavy machine-gun fire, Private Eromo on his own initiative made a flank attack upon a machine-gun nest, capturing same and forcing one officer, two sergeants, and six privates to surrender. By his act the company was thus enabled to continue in the advance.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Gilimo Eromo (ASN: 543173), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company M, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in company with two of his comrades, on 20 October 1918, at Claire Chenes, while advancing lines were held up by machine gun fire from the woods in front, Private Eromo voluntarily and without orders, went round the machine guns and into the woods from the flank, capturing the machine gun and one officer, two sergeants and six privates, thus enabling the lines to advance.
