The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Harry B. Erkenbrack (ASN: 75674), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Medeah Ferme, France, 30 October 1918. As a runner, Private Erkenbrack proved himself a fearless soldier by maintaining liaison for his battalion commander at all times through the most severe shell fire. He was always at the front when called upon for dangerous missions, and he carried them out with the greatest gallantry.
