The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Amory Vivion Elliot, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, between Fismette and Bazoches, France, 2 September 1918. Lieutenant Elliot advanced in front of our lines, exposed to close range enemy machine-gun fire, and rescued a severely wounded soldier.
