The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class George H. Edwards (ASN: 1218659), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery C, 105th Field Artillery, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Forges, France, 26 September 1918. In the face of heavy machine-gun fire, at great personal risk, Private Edwards crawled out from a position of safety and rescued a wounded soldier who was lying exposed to the enemy fire.
