    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Roy H. Eaton (ASN: 84345), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 168th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during an enemy raid on G.C. #11, C.R. Chamois sector, France, on the night of May 17 – 18, 1918. When about ten of the enemy, intent on securing prisoners and, supported by hand grenades and rifle fire, penetrated our lines, Private Eaton and three companions displayed exceptional bravery and fortitude when they fought them hand-to-hand and succeeded in killing one and dispersing the remainder of this superior force. In the performance of this act, Private Eaton was instantly killed.
