The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Leander S. Eads, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 60th Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Regnieville, France, September 15 – 17, 1918. Prompted by his great devotion to duty Captain Eads preferred to remain on duty with a detachment of his company organized as a carrying party, desiring to see that his detail performed the work assigned to them to the very utmost. While thus engaged he received severe wounds, which proved to be the cause of his death.
