The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Harold J. Dupre (ASN: 40565), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Medeah Ferme, France, 3 October 1918. Sergeant Dupre gallantly led his half platoon against an enemy machine-gun nest, and captured the position, together with four machine guns and about 60 prisoners. Immediately after this he fell mortally wounded.
