The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ernest Duncan (ASN: 2180096), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918. During the engagement Private Duncan set an example to the other members of his company by his gallant conduct. After the company was ordered to withdraw, he voluntarily returned to the position his company had held, and throughout the night assisted in evacuating the wounded.

No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Ernest Duncan (ASN: 2180096), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company A, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Duncan displayed exceptional heroism near Crezancy, France, 15 – 16 July 1918. After his company had been retired from an exposed position, Private Duncan voluntarily left a place of safety and went forward to assist in evacuating the wounded.
