The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Russell L. DuBois (ASN: 1711194), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 308th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 77th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ville Savoye, France, 20 August 1918. Although suffering acutely from the effects of mustard gas, Private Dubois refused to be evacuated, because of the great need of medical attention among his comrades. For three days he remained at his post, and only went to the rear when ordered to do so by his commanding officer.
