The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Otis V. Dozer (ASN: 2176368), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 353d Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois-de-Barricourt, France, 2 November 1918. Sergeant Dozer fearlessly exposed himself in the face of machine-gun fire for the purpose of setting an example to the men of his company. He was wounded while advancing, but continued until exhausted. His coolness and courage resulted in the capture of three machine-guns and their crews.
