The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal George Doucette (ASN: 61739), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, north of Verdun, France, 23 October 1918. Although not required by his regular duties to do so, Corporal Doucette voluntarily went forward with the first attacking wave and displayed notable bravery in attacking machine-gun nests. After being wounded he continued to advance until he received a second wound which necessitated his evacuation.
