The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Merl Doty (ASN: 2154815), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Beaurevoir, France, 6 October 1918. Corporal Doty volunteered and crossed an open space swept by fire from enemy machine-guns and snipers to rescue wounded comrades.
