The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private John Joseph Dorgan (ASN: 2207992), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 356th Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Beney, France, 23 September 1918. Although wounded four times at the start of the engagement, Private Dorgan continued with the advance of his platoon. Under heavy fire, his comrades began to waver, and Private Dorgan immediately went to the assistance of the sergeant and aided greatly in keeping the men under control.
