    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Harry J. Donahue (ASN: 42114), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Soissons, France, July 19 – 20, 1918. Sergeant Donahue assisted his company commander in the reorganization of his company under heavy shellfire. Due to the loss of officers, he led a few men through heavy machine-gun fire and captured a machine-gun position which was causing losses to his company. In the performance of this act he was severely wounded in the head by a machine-gun bullet.
