The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Ben F. Dixon, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux-Andigny, France, 29 September 1918. Captain Dixon was severely wounded during the early part of the operations against the Hindenburg line; his company having only one officer, he remained on duty. Shortly afterwards he received a second wound, and again refused to leave his men. When he saw that the front waves of his company were getting into barrage he at once went forward to stop them, and while doing so he was killed.
