The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant John T. Dillon (ASN: 64035), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chateau-Thierry, France, 22 July 1918. After being wounded Sergeant Dillon refused to go to the rear, but volunteered to act as a runner and repeatedly carried messages through the enemy barrage. Later the same day he voluntarily joined his platoon and fought with it in a successful attack against the enemy’s line.
