The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Henry J. Dick, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chipilly Ridge, France, 9 August 1918. Although wounded, Second Lieutenant Dick rushed a machine-gun nest that was causing heavy casualties, and bayoneted one of the crew, shot two, and captured five of the enemy. Seeing some of the enemy enter a dugout, he followed, capturing twelve more Germans and three machine guns. His bravery was an inspiration to his men.
