    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Rexford H. Dettre, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Dettre distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 6th Field Artillery, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action during World War I. Corporal Dettre displayed distinguished bravery in twice leaving his shelter during a heavy bombardment and going to the assistance of wounded men who were lying exposed in the open. While executing this mission he was twice knocked to the ground by the blast of shells but succeeded in bringing the wounded men to cover.

Corporal Dettre displayed distinguished bravery in twice leaving his shelter during a heavy bombardment and going to the assistance of wounded men lying exposed in the open.
