The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Charles Eustace Delario, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 360th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, 2 November 1918. Wounded while leading his company in the advance, Captain Delario turned over the command to another officer and went to the rear for first aid. Upon reaching the aid station he learned that his company was without officers, whereupon he immediately started back to the front through heavy machine-gun fire and was killed on the way.
