The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Clyde O. Curtis (ASN: 43092), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, south of Soissons, France, 18 July 1918. Leading his platoon against an enemy battery in the face of direct fire, Sergeant Curtis personally killed the gunner and, with the aid of his men, either killed or wounded the entire crew, thus preventing further casualties on his troops.
