The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Bernard Berkley Curtis (ASN: 1289643), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Bois-de-Brabant, France, 8 October 1918. Corporal Curtis courageously continued to lead his squad against the enemy, after being painfully wounded in the face by shell fragments, refusing to obtain first aid in order not to delay the advance of his squad.
