The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George F. Curry (ASN: 2397837), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Moulins, France, 15 July 1918. Private Curry voluntarily took up an abandoned automatic rifle and with one man moved to an exposed flank and opened a continuous harassing fire on the advancing enemy. Although exposed to direct fire, Private Curry kept his gun in action until an Infantry platoon could take up a better defensive position.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private George F. Curry (ASN: 2397837), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Battle of the Marne, 15 July 1918, Private Curry was in Headquarters Platoon. Private Curry voluntarily went into the lines on the extreme right flank which was exposed to machine gun fire from the front, flank, and rear. Being aware that two automatic squads had been annihilated, Private Curry, taking full advantage of an abandoned automatic rifle, with one full case of ammunition took this gun and with one man loading for him he kept a continuous fire on the advancing enemy and in doing this he made it possible for a platoon of men to take a position that they could hold. Private Curry then with a few more men succeeded in stopping for a while the machine gun fire on the flank. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]
