The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Earl M. Curnow (ASN: 261678), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 128th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Juvigny, north of Soissons, France, August 29 to 2 September 1918. Though he had been severely gassed, Corporal Curnow remained with his company while it was in the front line. When it was in support, he aided in carrying wounded across an area covered by machine-gun and artillery fire. Although this work was not required of him, he volunteered for it in spite of the danger and his own physical condition.
