The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Samuel Francis Crosbie (ASN: 1210091), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. After his company had passed the first and second lines of the enemy’s resistance and when all his company officers and sergeants senior to him had been killed, Sergeant Crosbie, while under a heavy hostile machine-gun fire, which was sweeping his company’s position at short range, voluntarily moved from shell hole to shell hole, reorganized a potion of the company, and was killed as he was about to lead the line forward.
