The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Edward Grant Coxe (ASN: 89745), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Ferme de Meurcy, near Villers-sur-Fere, France, 28 July 1918. Private Coxe continued to care for the wounded under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire after he himself was severely injured. He has since died as a result of the wounds received in action.
