The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Harry Coventry, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 326th Infantry Regiment, 82d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Juvin, France, October 11 – 27, 1918. All the officers of his company having become casualties, Sergeant Coventry assumed command, and by his coolness and good judgment, successfully led it to its objective. He was himself wounded in the leg during the operations, but he refused to be evacuated until his company was relieved.
