The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Major (Infantry) Tobias “Tobe” C. Cope, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 371st Infantry Regiment, 93d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Trieres Farm, France, 30 September 1918. Wounded in the arm, Major Cope remained on duty throughout the engagement, led his battalion, and encouraged his men by his gallant example, and refused to be evacuated.
