The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Robert Pinkney Cook (ASN: 1320798), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 29 September 1918. When his platoon was held up by machine-gun fire during an advance, although suffering from a painful machine-gun bullet wound in the hand, Sergeant Cook personally killed the gunner and put the gun out of action, thus permitting the further advance of his platoon.
