The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Robert Young Conrad, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Samogneux, France, 8 October 1918. Captain Conrad led his company in an assault, capturing many prisoners and machine guns. He continually inspired his men by utter disregard of danger and was mortally wounded while leading a charge on a machine-gun nest.
