The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Emmett E. Collins (ASN: 99699), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 168th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Ourcq River, France, 28 July 1918. After being wounded, Sergeant Collins voluntarily returned to his company as soon as he had received first aid, and fought courageously until he was killed.
