The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Abraham Cohan (ASN: 3177), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Sanitary Detachment, 103d Infantry Regiment (Attached), 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, 9 November 1918. After three others had failed in the attempt and were wounded, Private Cohan went out under terrific machine-gun fire and gave first aid to a wounded soldier.
