The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Albert F. Cleary (ASN: 115850), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 117th Train Headquarters and Military Police, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at St. Hilaire-au-Temple, France, on the night of 21 July 1918. While on duty as a town patrol during an enemy aerial bombardment, Private Cleary, disregarding his own danger, remained at his post and continued to make his rounds to see that all other troops were under cover until he was struck by an enemy aerial bomb and made the supreme sacrifice.
