The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant George E. Clark (ASN: 1375938), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery D, 122d Field Artillery, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Epinonville, France, 2 October 1918. When his battery echelon was bombed, Sergeant Clark, with great courage and presence of mind, conducted his men to shelter and then took charge of rescuing and treating the wounded, until he was himself wounded by an exploding bomb, necessitating the amputation of one of his arms.
