    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) John C. Christopher, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 168th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Sergy, France. 28 July 1918. First Lieutenant Christopher led his platoon against the Prussian Guards on Hill No. 212, near Sergy. So courageous was he and so skillful in directing the attack that 13 of the enemy’s best troops were captured at their guns and 5 machine guns were taken and turned on the foe.
