The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Medical Corps) Henry Christiansen, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 101st Ambulance Company, 101st Sanitary Train, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Saulx, France, September 25 – 26, 1918. Lieutenant Christensen established and operated a dressing station in an advanced position under constant heavy bombardment by the enemy. When word was received that our troops were withdrawing and permission had been given to move his station to a safer position he declined to withdraw, but continued his work of ministering to the wounded.
