The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Raymond C. Chisholm (ASN: 243374), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 345th Tank Battalion, Tank Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, near Varennes, France, 26 September 1918. After his tank had been hit by a shell Sergeant Chisholm ordered his driver ahead, although fatally wounded. He continued to take an important part in the action until he dropped dead, at his post.
