The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Harry R. Chadwick, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 132d Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bois-du-Fays, France, 11 October 1918. Although wounded while placing his machine guns in position, preparatory to an attack, he remained on duty for several hours, constantly exposing himself to enemy fire, as he moved along the front line to encourage his men. He remained on duty until exhausted from loss of blood.
