The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Leroy Cassingham (ASN: 2809082), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fey-en-Haye, France, 12 September 1918. During the attack of this company between Fey-en-Haye and Vilcey on 12 September Private Cassingham became separated from his company, but continued to advance alone. He entered an enemy dugout and single-handed captured thirteen prisoners, including one German Major.
