Carlson (ASN: 2067825), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 129th Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Consenvoye, France, 17 October 1918. Though he was seriously wounded, Private Carlson succeeded in reaching his destination with an important message, his route being under heavy shell fire, through ravines filled with gas.
