The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Socrates Carageorge (ASN: 106840), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 4th Machine-Gun Battalion, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vierzy, 19 July 1918. Corporal Carageorge voluntarily left shelter and went three hundred yards across an open field through a heavy barrage and procured signal rockets with which he successfully directed the fire of our artillery.
