By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Lyle B. Cain (ASN: 2400011), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 10 August 1918, at Fismes, France, Private Cain volunteered with one other man to go to the rescue of a wounded man from another regiment, and under heavy machine gun and shell fire, brought the wounded man safely back to his own trench. [A Distinguished Service Cross was awarded for this action.]

Cain (ASN: 2400011), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismes, France, 10 August 1918. Private Cain, with one other soldier, volunteered and went to the rescue of a wounded man from another regiment and returned through heavy machine-gun and shell fire, bringing the wounded man to his own trench.
