The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Alden Bush (ASN: 261832), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 125th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the attack on and capture of the village of Cierges, northeast of Chateau-Thierry, France, 1 August 1918. Corporal Bush was fatally wounded. In spite of his wound he struggled forward, urging on and inspiring his men, and keeping up with the attacking wave until he fell.
