The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Oscar L. Buck, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the attack on Landres-et-St. Georges line, France, 15 October 1918. Captain Buck led his company ably and efficiently in the attack. Although severely wounded, he refused to go to the rear, but continued to direct his men under terrific artillery and machine-gun fire until he was exhausted.
