The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Samuel R. Bryson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 371st Infantry Regiment, 93d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the Champagne Sector, France, 29 September 1918. After being wounded, Lieutenant Bryson remained in command of his platoon, never hesitating in his attempts to gain his objective, in the face of the greatest hazards.
