The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Homer E. Bryant (ASN: 1311604), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Martin Revere, France, 11 October 1918. Hearing a call for help from a man lying beyond the front line, Private Bryant, a stretcher bearer, unhesitatingly went to his assistance, although the spot was under heavy fire from enemy machine guns and snipers. As he was approaching the wounded man, he was instantly killed by an enemy sniper.
